Products Description

TWO-COMPONENT PMMA SCREED ROAD MARKING COATING

Thick-Film Performance for High-Wear Traffic Areas

Two-component PMMA screed road marking coating is a cold-applied, chemically cured marking material designed for roads requiring greater film thickness, abrasion resistance and long-term visibility.

The product is supplied as matched Component A and Component B materials. After the components are mixed according to the specified batch ratio, a chemical crosslinking reaction forms a dense and durable marking layer.

Unlike conventional solvent-evaporation paints, the coating develops its strength through chemical curing. It combines strong pavement adhesion, weather resistance, color retention and a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.

🧪 CHEMICALLY CURED A/B SYSTEM

Component A and Component B react after mixing to form a dense polymer network.

This curing mechanism provides:

✓ Strong structural integrity
✓ Good resistance to traffic abrasion
✓ Firm bonding to prepared pavement
✓ Stable performance under temperature changes
✓ Reduced film shrinkage compared with conventional solvent-based paint

The two components must be mixed strictly according to the supplied Technical Data Sheet. Mixing ratios should not be estimated at the construction site.

🛡️ DESIGNED FOR THICK-FILM APPLICATION

The screed version is intended for projects requiring a thicker and more wear-resistant marking layer than standard spray-applied coatings.

Recommended application thickness is generally between 1.0 and 1.8 mm, depending on:

✓ Traffic volume
✓ Pavement condition
✓ Required service performance
✓ Project specification
✓ Application equipment

The finished marking is smooth and flat. It is different from raised-profile or vibratory markings.

✨ DOUBLE REFLECTIVE GLASS BEAD SYSTEM

The coating contains more than 30% premixed glass beads. Drop-on glass beads can also be applied to the wet surface during construction.

This combined system provides two levels of reflection:

Surface Reflection

Drop-on beads provide initial night visibility immediately after the marking is opened to traffic.

Internal Reflection

As the marking surface gradually wears, premixed beads inside the coating become exposed and help maintain reflective performance.

The supplied test reports recorded:

  • White coating premixed glass beads: 33.9%

  • Yellow coating premixed glass beads: 35.3%

Actual retroreflectivity depends on bead quality, surface application rate, bead embedment, marking thickness and construction conditions.

🚛 BUILT FOR HIGH-WEAR ROAD SECTIONS

The dense cured coating is suitable for areas exposed to repeated vehicle braking, turning and heavy traffic.

Typical benefits include:

✓ Strong resistance to wheel abrasion
✓ Good resistance to compression and deformation
✓ Reduced peeling on properly prepared surfaces
✓ Stable marking shape under normal service temperatures
✓ Longer maintenance intervals than ordinary single-component paint

Actual service life varies with traffic volume, pavement quality, film thickness, climate and application workmanship.

🔗 STRONG PAVEMENT ADHESION

Before curing, the coating can penetrate the fine pores of asphalt and concrete surfaces. After chemical reaction, it forms a firm bond with the pavement.

For reliable adhesion, the surface must be:

✓ Clean and completely dry
✓ Free from dust and loose aggregate
✓ Free from oil, grease and old peeling paint
✓ Structurally sound
✓ Properly primed when required

A compatible primer is recommended for aged concrete, porous surfaces and slightly sandy pavement.

☀️ WEATHER AND COLOR STABILITY

The PMMA-based system provides good resistance to:

✓ Ultraviolet exposure
✓ Rain and normal road water
✓ Seasonal temperature changes
✓ Outdoor aging
✓ Color fading
✓ Normal chemical contamination

The cured surface is dense and relatively smooth, helping reduce the accumulation of dust and road dirt.

White and yellow are the standard colors. Red, blue, green and other project colors can be produced subject to color sample confirmation and minimum production requirements.

🌱 LOW TESTED VOC CONTENT

According to the supplied JT/T 280-2022 test reports:

  • Tested VOC content of white coating: 7 g/kg

  • Tested VOC content of yellow coating: 4 g/kg

These results demonstrate low measured VOC content for the submitted samples.

For tender submission or environmental compliance, customers should request the relevant batch report, Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet before ordering.

🧰 APPLICATION GUIDANCE

1. Inspect the Pavement

Confirm that the pavement is firm, dry and free from structural damage.

2. Prepare the Surface

Remove dust, loose aggregate, oil, moisture and poorly bonded old markings. Mechanically grind weak concrete when necessary.

3. Apply Primer if Required

Use a compatible pavement primer on concrete, aged pavement or porous surfaces.

4. Mix the Components

Mix Component A and Component B strictly according to the batch-specific instructions. Do not change the ratio without technical confirmation.

5. Apply the Coating

Use suitable two-component screed equipment and maintain the specified film thickness.

6. Apply Glass Beads

Distribute drop-on glass beads evenly while the coating surface is still receptive.

7. Protect the Marking

Prevent vehicles, pedestrians, water and contamination from contacting the marking before it reaches the required opening condition.

⚠️ IMPORTANT CONSTRUCTION NOTES

✓ Do not apply during rain, fog or surface condensation.
✓ The pavement must be completely dry.
✓ Avoid construction when relative humidity is excessively high.
✓ Mix only the quantity that can be applied within the working time.
✓ Gel time changes with material temperature and ambient conditions.
✓ Never add unauthorized solvent or thinner.
✓ Clean equipment before the mixed coating begins to cure.
✓ Opening time should be confirmed according to the actual curing condition.

❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: What is the difference between screed type and spray type?

Screed coating is normally applied at a greater film thickness and is recommended for high-wear areas. Spray type is generally selected for faster application over large, relatively uniform road sections.

Q2: Are Component A and Component B both required?

Yes. The coating relies on a chemical reaction between the matched components. Using only one component will not produce the required cured marking film.

Q3: Can I use a fixed 98:2 mixing ratio?

Only when that ratio is specified on the supplied batch label and Technical Data Sheet. The mixing method may vary with the formulation, color and packaging system.

Q4: Can this coating be applied directly to old concrete?

Not always. Loose material, oil and weak surface layers must be removed first. A compatible primer is recommended for aged, porous or slightly sandy concrete.

Q5: Does the coating already contain glass beads?

Yes. The tested white and yellow samples contained more than 30% premixed glass beads. Drop-on beads are still recommended to obtain better initial surface reflection.

Q6: How long does the coating take to dry?

The supplied reports recorded 41 minutes for the tested white sample and 15 minutes for the tested yellow sample under laboratory conditions. Site curing time varies with temperature, mixing accuracy, film thickness and pavement conditions.

Q7: Can it be applied in rainy or humid weather?

No. Rain, condensation and excessive moisture can interfere with curing and adhesion. Construction should be carried out on a clean and completely dry pavement.

Q8: What is the expected service life?

Service life cannot be guaranteed by a single fixed number. It depends on traffic volume, turning and braking frequency, pavement quality, film thickness, bead application and construction quality.
