Products Description

High-Performance Reflective Glass Beads for Road Marking

🔷 Product Overview

High-Performance Reflective Glass Beads are premium drop-on particles developed for road marking projects requiring stronger and more consistent dry-night visibility.

The beads are mechanically dispensed onto freshly applied thermoplastic, acrylic or two-component road marking materials. After correct embedding, the exposed spherical portion receives vehicle headlight illumination and returns part of the light toward the driver.

Compared with conventional drop-on grades, the L350 grade is positioned for road projects requiring a higher initial retroreflectivity target and more consistent reflective appearance across the marking surface.

✨ Main Product Advantages

💡 Higher Initial Retroreflectivity Target

When applied with a compatible road marking material under suitable construction and testing conditions, the product is designed for an initial retroreflectivity target of at least 350 mcd/m²·lx.

The final result depends on the complete marking system, including:

  • Marking material formulation

  • Applied film thickness

  • Glass-bead application rate

  • Particle-size distribution

  • Bead embedding depth

  • Surface cleanliness

  • Construction equipment

  • Testing method and conditions

The target value should therefore be verified through a project trial or approved marking-system sample.

⚪ Consistent Reflective Appearance

Controlled bead quality and particle distribution help create a more uniform reflective surface. This reduces visibly dark or weak areas across the marking when the product is correctly dispensed.

Consistent particle shape also supports smoother flow through mechanical bead dispensers and more stable application across the full marking width.

🔘 Controlled Gradation

The glass-bead gradation is selected to achieve suitable coverage and embedding in fresh marking material.

The appropriate particle size should correspond with the thickness and construction method of the road marking. Beads that are too large may detach prematurely, while beads that are too small may become excessively embedded and provide insufficient exposed surface.

💧 Moisture-Resistant Surface Treatment

A moisture-resistant coating helps reduce caking during normal storage and supports stable dispensing performance.

The coating does not eliminate the need for proper storage. Bags must remain sealed before use and should be protected from rain, excessive humidity and wet warehouse floors.

🛣️ Suitable for Important Road Projects

The L350 grade is suitable for projects requiring a higher dry-night visibility level than standard or general high-brightness grades.

It can be considered for major highways, urban arterial roads, intersections and other areas where clear nighttime guidance is important.

🛣️ Recommended Applications

High-Performance Reflective Glass Beads can be used for:

  • Highway lane markings

  • Urban arterial roads

  • Major intersections

  • Directional arrows and road symbols

  • Pedestrian crossings

  • Tunnel entrance and exit markings

  • Industrial and logistics traffic areas

  • Thermoplastic road marking paint

  • Cold-applied acrylic traffic paint

  • Two-component road marking materials

  • Projects requiring enhanced dry-night visibility

This product is not described as a dedicated wet-night or all-weather glass-bead system. Wet-condition performance must be evaluated using the complete road marking system and the corresponding test method.

⚙️ Application Guidance

1. Apply While the Marking Is Fresh

Glass beads must be dispensed immediately after the road marking material is applied, while the coating remains molten or sufficiently wet to receive the particles.

Delayed application may prevent proper embedding and reduce bead retention.

2. Maintain Uniform Distribution

The bead dispenser should provide continuous and even coverage across the entire marking width.

The dispensing equipment should be inspected before construction to prevent blocked outlets, unstable bead flow or uneven transverse distribution.

3. Control Embedding Depth

The beads should be partially embedded in the road marking material.

Insufficient embedding may result in premature bead loss under traffic. Excessive embedding leaves too little bead surface exposed and can reduce initial retroreflection.

4. Match Beads With Film Thickness

Particle gradation must be compatible with the wet-film or molten-film thickness. A construction trial should be conducted when changing the marking material, bead grade or application equipment.

5. Determine the Application Rate by Testing

The application rate should be determined according to the marking system, film thickness, target retroreflectivity and project requirements.

A single fixed spreading rate should not be used for every marking formulation without verification.

📦 Packaging and Storage

The standard export package is a sealed 25 kg laminated woven bag.

Store the product in a dry, cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep bags sealed until application and protect them from:

  • Rain and excessive humidity

  • Direct contact with wet ground

  • Oil, dust and chemical contamination

  • Damaged or open packaging

  • Prolonged outdoor exposure

Palletized storage and external moisture-protective wrapping are recommended for export transportation.

✅ Quality Control

Production and batch inspection may include:

  • Visual appearance

  • Particle-size distribution

  • Particle roundness

  • Refractive index

  • Density

  • Magnetic particle content

  • Moisture resistance

  • Surface-treatment condition

  • Flow performance

Final batch requirements can be confirmed according to the approved specification and destination-market requirements.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between L350 and L250 glass beads?

L350 is positioned for road marking systems requiring a higher initial retroreflectivity target. L250 is suitable for general high-brightness applications, while L350 is intended for more demanding dry-night visibility projects.

Can L350 glass beads be used with thermoplastic paint?

Yes. They can be mechanically dispensed onto freshly applied thermoplastic road markings before the material cools and hardens.

Can they be used with acrylic and two-component markings?

Yes, provided that the selected gradation matches the marking thickness and the beads are applied while the surface remains capable of achieving proper embedding.

Are these wet-night glass beads?

No. This product is positioned as a high-performance dry-night reflective grade. It should not be described as wet-night or all-weather glass beads without corresponding testing of the complete marking system.

Do they comply with EN 1423 or AASHTO M247?

The currently referenced testing information is based on GB/T 24722-2020. Compliance with another standard should only be stated after the required gradation, coating and test criteria have been separately confirmed.

Can the specifications be customized?

Alternative particle gradations and surface treatments can be discussed according to the marking material, construction equipment, project specification and order quantity.
